Dear Vicky Jo,

I have been typecast as an INFP, and your observations regarding the INFP have resonated with me. When I got to the truth in humor page, though, the quotation from the ISFP resonated the most with me. I pride myself on having great tastes and on knowing what's aesthetically pleasing. I will even go so far as to recommend books, movies, and music to others that I think they'd like. I would, however, never recommend anything that I didn't already think was good. I wonder if other INFPs feel this way, if they also believe they have the best tastes. If not, then maybe I am an INFP with a strong Si function.

So over here, without knowing you from Adam, I make up that EITHER you could have ISFP preferences, OR perhaps your self-evaluation misses the bigger picture. What I mean by that is, EVERYONE thinks they have good taste and know what looks good, etc. Of COURSE we all do. Everyone also thinks they have a great sense of humor, and most people believe they are good drivers. These things tend to be universally true, at least in this country. ;-D

One thing I DO know is that this "humor" around ISFP has to do with the five senses: what tastes good, what sounds good, what feels good, what smells good, what looks good, etc. It's very much about the surface thing.

Last week a coach posted to a public coaching board that she must attend a high-profile wedding in New York City, and she needs a fashion consultant to help her dress for the event. That tickled me. In contrast, I bought my Oscar dress in the garment district on the cheap and got nothing but compliments both times I wore it. Nevertheless, my ISFP niece STILL has a better fashion sense than I do (damn her! damn her!).

So... I don't know what you're basing your "aesthetic sense" on -- and whether you know any ISFPs to compare your sensitivities to. Because that can be very enlightening.

As I already stated, it's possible you've been mis-typed by the assessment(s), and your best-fit type isn't for INFP after all. You wouldn't be the first one that's happened to, trust me. And it's why I recommend the best way to discover your best-fit pattern is to sign up on my TypeInsights website for a personal self-discovery session in order to get at your best-fit preferences with professional support. No test will ever know you as well as you know yourself and can reveal as you step through the model with a professional facilitator.
