I'm an INFP and I have a problem with the Christmas gift analogy. I was the child who never wanted a thing for Christmas because it was just more stuff. I'd struggle with my Christmas list because I couldn't think of any *things* I wanted, no toys or anything. (My ESFJ sister was the one to fill up the list.)

The rest was accurate, but that just seemed very wrong. And I am horrible at gifts for other people.

THANKS for that great insight. I just made that idea up, and I'm grateful you set the record straight for me. Let's see what I can come up with as a substitute. Any ideas? It sounds like you may have some inside knowledge here. ;-)

I've been playing with this intellectually -- would it fit better to say INFPs know what's *important* about Christmas, or something like that?? Or is it just a dead end to work with a holiday period, since that's more Fe territory than Fi....? Help? ;-)

This is very true for me, I'm an INFJ and I just found it nearly impossible to answer the "I want...." question until I thoroughly thought about it, Though it was easy for me to answer it for my best friend, he’s a strange one though....I don't think he knows what anyone wants; even himself!

I would agree with that other INFP up there who is also an anonymous. My ESFJ mom knows what she wants. She's always telling me beforehand what to give her (ESFJs like arranging things for others to do). If people ask me what I want for Christmas I will be like "uhhh..."

Fi is about weighing importance of things. The Christmas analogy does not work as well since usually material goods end up on the lower end of the list in regards of importance for most INFPs, so we may have trouble naming them. Or we may pass by many things (like in a mall) but suddenly see something that digs. And then it is suddenly like holy light is springing from it.

I believe Fe with Ni leads to knowing what others want. My mom always likes giving me stuff, but it is more like things I should want--she does not know what I want. My ENFJ friend would say something like "I know you'd like this" and he'd be right.

To add to what I just said, Fi is of a selective nature, so spontaneously listing a bunch of personal wants would actually be difficult. Ne can quickly list things, but Fi very slowly decides.
